2018 Friends Donate $1,300 to the Scio Public Library The Friends of the Scio Public Library, a group of volunteers who work to enhance and expand the benefits that our library brings to the Scio community, recently donated $1,300 to the Scio Public Library. Part of the donation will be used to purchase materials and supplies for the Library’s Summer Reading Program. This program provides free weekly fun educational activities for Scio area children with the purpose of encouraging them to read during the summer months. The donation will also be used to purchase new books and materials to supplement our library’s reading collection. The Friends raised a significant portion of this donation through their annual book sale, which occurs in May during Scio’s Linn County Lamb and Wool Fair. This year the book sale will be held at the Scio City Hall on Friday, May 18, from 11 am to 5 pm and Saturday, May 19, from 9 am to 3 pm. There is also a member only pre-sale on Thursday, May 17, from 3 pm to 6:30 pm. Memberships may be purchased at the door. For more information, contact Wendy Greenwald at 503-394-4266. 2017 Lavonne Murray, Scio Librarian, receives three checks from the Friends president, May Garland
Each year Friends of the Library raise money, through various fundraisers, to donate to the Scio Public Library. These funds are intended to extend the library’s city-budget funds and are used to purchase new items, including books, DVDs and computer software, that will meet the needs and interests of patrons. Funds may also be used for supplies or for various programs and services sponsored by the library.
