National Night Out

The Friends had a booth at Scio's National Night Out on August 1st. We held a free raffle and gave dozens of books away.

Can't wait for next year!

If your family or neighborhood includes a newborn baby (age 0 to 1) AND that baby has a Scio address, please read on. The baby can receive a FREE kit that includes a board book, a onesie, a list of age-appropriate books for babies, and Baby’s First Library Card.

Books for Babies is sponsored by Friends of the Scio Public Library. ...

Please contact the librarian, LaVonne Murray, at 503-394-3342 or Friends of the Library member, May Garland at 503-394-3696 to receive one of the kits for your new son or daughter, grandson or granddaughter, or the cute baby next door!

Remember that reading to babies helps them learn more quickly. And it builds a bond between the baby and the reader. It’s never to early to start.

New Scio Public Library Benefactors Display and Open House

The Friends hosted an Open House on Sunday, July 17, to recognize and thank individuals, businesses, and organizations who have helped make our tiny Scio Public Library a success.

The focus of the Open House was this beautiful permanent display (pictured above). Dedicated to the memory of Carol Haugerud, a long-time library supporter and volunteer, the display is the work of two local residents, Nicholas Massari who designed the piece and Roger Gaither who actualized the design. Each spine of each of the "wooden books" holds the names of benefactors.

Please plan to visit the library to enjoy this newest addition.

Annual Book Sale

The Friends of the Scio Public Library will hold its Annual Book Sale on Friday, May 19 (11 a.m. to 5 a.m.), and Saturday, May 20 (9 a.m. to 3 a.m.), at Scio City Hall, 38957 NW 1st Avenue. Thousands of books are available, as well as DVDs and audio CDs. All books cost $1. Beginning at 2 PM on Saturday, you can fill a grocery bag with all of your favorite authors for $3. The proceeds from the sale support adult and children’s programs at the library. The sale occurs the same weekend as Scio’s Linn County Lamb and Wool Fair.
